Sands Cotai Central second phase opened on 20 September, reaching a significant milestone for establishing Macao as a world centre of tourism and leisure. Construction work of Sands Cotai Central is in three phases, of which the first phase was unveiled on 11 April. The most eye-catching new facility facilities is the opening of the first of two hotel towers from Sheraton Macao Hotel, Cotai Central, with a second tower opening in early 2013. The hotel, which offers 3,829 guestrooms, is the world's largest Sheraton hotel as well as the largest hotel in Macao

In the evening, Sands Cotai Central threw a lavish launch party to which Keith Buckley, Executive Project Director of Hsin Chong Construction (Macau) was invited. Other honourable guests included Chief Executive of Macao Special Administrative Region, Chui Sai On, government officials, company executives from Sands and Sheraton, international film star Zhang Ziyi, and the stars of the hit reality TV show The Voice of China.
